Senior girls from Payne County who are campaigning for Oklahoma Girls State offices this week at East Central University in Ada are Brittney Heyman (front, from left), Cushing; Megan Kiner, Cristine Klatt, Mary Talley and Valerie Willis, Stillwater; and Rachel Cussner, Yale. During their week-long experience May 25 - June 1, 416 outstanding girls from across the state run for office, campaign, hold elections and pass laws. Each learns the responsibilities and duties of elected and appointed officials at all levels of city, county and state government.

Jason and Rebecca Schultz of Perkins announce the birth of a son, Jason, born May 22 at Cushing Regional Hospital. He weighed seven pounds, seven ounces and was 20 inches in length.

Genealogical Society to meet June 3

The Cushing Genealogical Society will meet Monday, June 3, 7:00 pm at the Cushing Public Library. The program will be presented by Mahlon Erickson on "Researching Your Confederate Veterans" with a focus on Oklahoma. Work continues on the Cookbook, Carolyn Allison requests that everyone interested in having a Surname/Memorial ad for the Cookbook, to submit them no later than June 3. The Best Choice Labels contest continues with each 25 labels submitted, you name is entered in the monthly drawing for your choice of book to be purchased for the library. Refreshments will be served Berniece Taylor and Mary and Johnny Widener. Everyone is invited to attend.
